5 Truck Tire Wheel Cleaning Tips

In 2019, American customers bought about 12.2 million new light-duty trucks and another 529,500 heavy-duty ones.

Trucks are used for heavy-duty work, no matter how old or new. It’s easy to make a truck’s body shine again as long as it doesn’t have any scratches or other damage.

How do you make a truck tire and its wheel shine? It’s not the easiest place to clean, but the wheels are often the dirtiest.

Here are some great tips to make your tires and wheels shine again!

The first step is to choose an appropriate cleaner for your wheels. You can make wheels from steel or aluminum and then finish them with any number of coatings including chrome.

Some cleaners are safe for one type but can cause damage to others. Make sure you only use a cleaner that is safe for your particular type of wheel.

What if you don’t know which type of wheel you have? There are all-purpose products that can be used for all types of wheels, although they may not clean as well as a specialty product.

Spray the tire and wheel with strong water spray before you start to remove any loose particles. This will remove the bulk of the debris and make it easier.

Spray your chosen cleaner on your truck tires and wheels and allow it to sit for a few minutes to penetrate dirt and brake dust. Spray it only on one wheel at a stretch. Don’t let it dry for too long as this will cause the cleaner to dry faster and create more problems.

Use a soft-bristled toothbrush to gently scrub the tire and wheel. This will remove any brake dust and dirt that has built up. To clean between the spokes, special wheel and tire brushes are best.

Rinse the tire and wheel thoroughly with water. Use a microfiber towel to dry the tire and wheel. This will prevent water spots.

Dirt, brake dust, and other contaminants can quickly cause wheels to become dirty. A protective wax coat will prevent dirt from sticking to your wheels, making them last longer.

Dressing your tires is the final step. This process is similar to waxing wheels. Your tires will look brand new with the right dressing. Be careful not to apply too much dressing or drive until it dries completely. The dressing could fall off your tires if it does not dry completely.

Don’t be afraid to clean a truck wheel and tire again. These tips will make your truck shine and sparkle again.
